The basic course in publishing will focus on the general book publishing process – from manuscript acquisition to how the book reaches the final consumer. Each of the participants will be mandated to choose one of the following units as a major:

  • Book Editing
  • Book Production and Design
  • Sales, Marketing, and Publicity
  • Literary Rights, Contract Negotiation and The Business of Book Publishing

Each of the units are headed by a faculty member who will directly mentor candidates in that department. Candidates will report directly to their Head of Department and in case the HOD is unavailable, the Programmes Officer will always be available to attend to every student’s needs in the academy.

For candidates applying for the physical class, it is compulsory that they have a functional laptop as wireless fidelity will be made available for streaming of online videos and podcasts, and online interaction with some of the faculty members who are unavailable physically because of distance.

At the end of the course, candidates must be prepared embark on a compulsory six week internship with a publishing house.   This is a rare opportunity for the candidates to gain first-hand experience in a typical Nigerian publishing house. For our online candidates, arrangements will be made with publishing firms in their location to recruit them as intern for the same duration.
